Bearver Avenue Construction
Polk County and the City of Des Moines are working together to complete the reconstruction of Beaver Avenue from Aurora Ave. to just south of the I-35/80 overpass.
Construction work on this project is scheduled to begin in April, but work to relocate existing utilities is continuing this month. In fact, very soon, MidAmerican Energy will begin the relocation of several utility poles along this project. The attached schedule details the dates, times, and detours that will be used for this project:
MidAmerican Power line Relocation Schedule
Work Schedule Beginning: February 13
Ending: February 24
Work Hours 9 AM – 3 PM
Posted Detour from 9 AM to 3 PM for closure of Beaver Ave. between Aurora Ave. and Meredith Dr.
- Meredith Drive to Merle Hay Road to Aurora Ave.
Posted Detour from 9 AM to 3 PM for closure of Beaver Ave. between Meredith Dr. and Lower Beaver Ave.
- Meredith Drive to Merle Hay Road to NW Johnston Drive
Public Works staff will be on-site during this work and work closely with the utility contractors to assure all property owners are notified if these activities affect their property or utility service.
Obviously, this schedule is heavily dependent on the weather, therefore changes may need to me made. These changes will be posted on the following website as information is known: http://www.polkcountyiowa.gov/PublicWorks/pages/BeaverAve.aspx
If you prefer, an updated schedule can be emailed to you. If you wish to receive these project schedule emails for not only the utility relocation, but the entire project, please submit your email address emailing us at publicworks@polkcountyiowa.gov
Palm and Bel-Aire Islands

The islands will be shorter and more narrow. This reduces hinderances to neighbors backing out of driveways and also provides more room for traffic and for snow removal. |

From Lt. Joe Gonzalesz of the Des Moines Police Department
Tips for homeowners:
At night leave the front and back lights on to provide more visibility around your residence. Close your garage door even when home.
If you will be gone for an extended period of time stop the mail and paper delivery so people don’t know that the residence is unattended. Also, arrange to have the garbage container placed on the curb of the normal pick up day.
Talk with your neighbors when you will be gone so they can help monitor your area.
Call DMPD 283-4811 and give them your information if you will be on vacation so they can provide extra patrol.
Report any suspicious activity that you see, things that look out of place or activity where it appears that somebody may be casing the area.
Remember that some burglaries occur during the day when people are working, sometimes when we see people during the day we don’t think much of it.
We don’t want people to be nervous or paranoid we just want you to be cautious and involved in looking out for one another. |
